Throughout the week we’ve been looking at what is traditional advertising, why it’s producing poor results for you and what you can do about it. Many businesses have become frustrated investing significant funds into traditional advertising methods only to find that they receive a dwindling return on investment.
Some of these businesses have turned to an internet advertising company for help. With the popularity of the internet traditional advertising methods like newspaper ads, yellow pages and direct-mail campaigns are driving fewer customers and leads to businesses, making the expenses associated with these obsolete advertising methods no longer worth the money.
We’ve taken a look at two companies in different industries and what they have done to transition from traditional marketing to internet marketing methods. In Case Study #1 we looked at the garden supplies and landscaping company Van Beek’s and yesterday we looked at the flooring industry in Case Study #2, which focused on Sears Flooring.
Today, let’s look at the results that Van Beek’s experienced through their internet marketing campaign.
After realizing that their yellow pages advertising was no longer producing leads or results the members of Van Beek’s decided to take the step towards internet marketing.
They contacted WSI Milton who started off by putting three internet marketing techniques in place:
- Created a website based on conversion architecture
- Began a pay per click Google AdWords campaign
- Started a targeted email marketing campaign
The results were dramatic! Within a couple of weeks the owners of the two Van Beek’s locations each needed to get Blackberries so that they could keep up with the abundance of leads that they were immediately flooded with.
After their first season of implementing an internet marketing strategy Van Beek’s realized that they had their best year ever, which is amazing considering they have been in business since 1962!
The family owners were so excited with the results produced from their internet marketing campaign that it was easy to get everyone in the company on board. Van Beek’s now had a new goal in mind – to make sure they showed up on the first page of Google for every relatable term in their industry.
In order to do this they began a search engine optimization (SEO) campaign.
- Conversion architecture on their website
- A pay per click Google AdWords campaign
- A targeted email marketing campaign
- An SEO campaign
Despite being in the middle of the recession Van Beek’s found the results of their efforts had blossomed as their garden supply business was up another 40%! Van Beek’s made a smart decision to stop their yellow pages campaign and invest their money instead in internet marketing.
The results of their decision are strong evidence proving the value of internet marketing to their business. As of May 2010 they:
- Had 10286 website visitors
- Received 1902 phone calls generated from their website (tracked through their exclusive website phone number), most of which were converted into clients: “when we get a phone call, we land them”
- Received 227 online quote forms which were submitted through their website
- Found that 21% of their website visitors took action
Since the start of their internet campaign Van Beek’s has seen similar increases season after season and expect that the results of their campaign will continue to produce amazing results and prove to be a smart return on investment.
